Antiparos by Car - A Second Island Day Trip

Antiparos sits across a narrow channel from the west coast of Paros, a small, quieter sister island that rewards a full day with your rental. Take the short ferry, drive ten minutes to the main town, and you'll find a different pace: pedestrian streets in white and bougainvillea, calm beaches on the east coast, and the famous Cave of Antiparos to the south. Many of its best corners only open up to those with a car.

Antiparos town (Hora) is the heart of the island, a five-minute drive from the ferry ramp or an easy walk. The main street is pedestrian and dressed in white and bougainvillea, with cafes spilling onto the marble paving. The Venetian castle quarter at the top of town is a maze of vaulted alleys, perfect for a slow late afternoon.

The east coast, facing Paros, has the calmer water and most of the family beaches. Soros, Glyfa, and Agios Spiridon are the favourites, each ten to twenty minutes from town along clearly signed roads. Apantima and Sifneiko on the west side catch the wind in the afternoon and are quieter for late swims.

In the south of the island, the Cave of Antiparos is one of the oldest show caves in Europe, with stalactites built up over tens of thousands of years. It is a short drive plus a stairway down into the rock. Allow an hour for the visit and bring a layer; it is cool inside year-round.

The small ferry runs from Pounta on Paros, about ten minutes south of Parikia, and crosses to Antiparos in roughly seven minutes. Cars pay a small fee of 6 to 8 euros, and your rental insurance covers the crossing. Just mention Antiparos when you book so we can confirm the details.

The town square fills up around sunset with tavernas serving Cycladic classics, from grilled fish to slow-cooked goat and local cheeses. Ferries run frequently into the late evening in summer, so you can stay for dinner and drive back under the stars.

Roads on Antiparos are good but narrow; the main loop south to the cave is paved and easy. Petrol stations are limited, so top up on Paros before the ferry. The whole island is small enough to circle in an afternoon, but a full day lets you swim, eat, and explore the cave without rushing.
